Why Did Tony Kill Christopher? What Made Him Do It?

I’m not gonna lie, i was surprised when Tony killed his nephew, Christopher Moltisanti, i was not expecting that a bit, and i know a lot of fans out there are surprised with the turn of event, i mean they were close, they were like family. If  you want to know what really made Tony killed Christopher Moltisanti, then you might want to through this article.

Background on Tony and Christopher’s Relationship

Tony Soprano and Christopher Moltisanti were pretty much close, but their relationship was a complicated one. You see Christopher sees Tony as a father figure and mentor. to Christopher, tony was a family and also his boss. They are actually related, Christopher was Tony’s nephew. Tony  played a vital role introducing and guiding  Christopher in the mafia world.

Tony had always saw something in Christopher, he knew he would make a good leader, so he groomed him. But just like i said, their relationship was a complicated one, they both had their own issues, often time they had problem.  Christopher had some problem and that is, he mostly make mistakes, and he was struggling with addiction. This was bad for business and that made Tony frustrated. There’s no doubt that Tony loves Christopher ,but he had to deal with the mistakes Christopher make.

Their relationship never got better, they kept having problem and instead of  Christopher changing, he grew even worst. Tony really cared and loved Christopher, but he wasn’t making things easy for him.

Christopher’s Struggles with Addiction

One of the problems Christopher Moltisanti was his addiction. I’m not even lie, he was really addicted to drugs and alcohol. At some point in “The Sopranos”, Christopher Moltisanti tried stay clean for  a while, but that didn’t go well, there was tension between with Tony Soprano and others in the mafia. Because of his addiction, it affected his work greatly, he became unreliable and  not only that, he became a danger to the crew.

Christopher kept causing problem because of this addiction and  that made Tony to be frustrated. He did what he thought could help Christopher, he even sent him to rehab so he could get better, but that didn’t help,  Christopher still went back to his old ways. He was always on drugs, that made him careless and led to really serious situation that was going to harm the family business.

As time went on , Tony began seeing Christopher as a liability

Why Did Tony Kill Christopher?

If Christopher Moltisanti was acting right  and he wasn’t putting the crew  in danger, Tony would not have killed him. The reason he got killed was because he got addicted to drugs, alcohol and did things that put the crew in danger. There was an incident where Christopher got so high and was intoxicated  while he was driving and he got involved in a car accident. At that point Tony  realized that it was too much and that his addiction was getting out of control.

Even when he got into an accident, Christopher didn’t want to change a bit. Tony then realized that Christopher was going to be a  liability, and get them to a bigger problem. He was not trustworthy because of his attitude and that got Tony scared that he was going to reveal the mafia’s secret. So Tony did  what he thought was best, he suffocated and killed Christopher to protect himself and the family

Impact on Tony’s Character

When Christopher died, it had some massive impact on the Tony Soprano’s character. He wasn’t the same after he killed Christopher, he was now withdrawn and a detached from the rest. He was really hurt, but Christopher was getting in the way of the business and he had do what he did.

We know that Tony loved Christopher as a father, but he still went to kill him. This showed how far he could go to protect the himself and the business.

There was a time where Tony would  struggle and feel guilt when making a hard decision, but the fact that he could kill Christopher, no matter how careless Christopher was,  clearly shows how he now lacks emotion and morality. He actually changed after the incidence, i mean it was obvious,  he doesn’t feel guilt like he used to.  He was so withdrawn from people, he interacted less with family  and friends

Fan Reactions and Theories

I’m not even going to lie, i was surprised when Tony killed Christopher, i was truly not  expecting that and i know a lot of fan felt the same way too. They had this really close relationship, Christopher was like a son to him, we all thought he was never going to kill him. Different people had different reaction and opinion though.

Some, just like myself were surprised and thought it was not right to kill him because of how close they both were. On the other hand, some people believe Tony did the right thing. Christopher was never going to change, he was an addict and he was going bring danger to the crew.

You want to know my own opinion? I think that was the coldest thing Tony did, no matter how damaged Christopher seem, he was still family and Tony would have looked for a way to help him.

Fan have been bringing up theories over the years about the incident. While some say it was because of  Christopher’s  addiction that made Tony kill him, others believe it was because Tony was jealous of Christopher. We  don’t know for sure which is which but one thing is sure, the death of  Christopher impacted fan

Conclusion

The way i see this , it’s  two way thing, Tony  should not have killed Christopher, no matter how addictive he was and how unreliable he had become. Christopher was like a son to him, that alone would have made him not kill him. But on the other, we know that Tony has done a lot to see that Christopher change, but he never did.

For me, Tony killing Christopher has no justification, people can change at any given time
